Anthony Parkin, Quantity Surveyor, Davis Langdon – An AECOM company

“Central Joinery has an acute understanding of clients’ needs and reacts accordingly. Without them, we could not have achieved what we have.”

This is the verdict of Anthony Parkin, quantity surveyor with consultancy David Langdon.  Central Joinery was selected for the supply and installation of cabinetry for the refurbishment of more than 65 BNZ branches from Gisborne to Kerikeri (i.e. north of the North Island).  Cabinetry was for the complete fit-out of kitchens, front-of-shop teller counters and write-up display units, and other back-of-office facilities.

The joinery was complex, and installation was subject to rigorous deadlines with significant work undertaken out of trading hours.

“Central Joinery has handled large volumes of specialist work in a high pressure environment – and they just get on with it.  I can rely on the fact that they will get the job done – and to the quality demanded by the retail environment.”

Significant in Central Joinery’s successful tender for this two year project was the fact that all joinery is manufactured here in New Zealand, at the company’s Auckland-based workshop.

“In line with sustainability policies, our client was very conscious of buying New Zealand- made products. Central Joinery met this important consideration, which meant emissions were minimised and local manufacturing was supported.”

Bert Denée - Director, Kalmar Construction Ltd

Kalmar Construction, a leading Auckland construction company involved in large-scale apartment and residential housing projects, has selected Central Joinery for the supply and installation of cabinetry for more than a decade.

Projects have included the supply and installation of kitchens, vanities and wardrobes in three serviced apartment complexes in Auckland’s CBD, and the supply and installation of cabinetry for residential housing projects at Point Ridge and Whisper Cove, and for Housing New Zealand contracts.

Kalmar Construction director Bert Denée cites numerous reasons why Kalmar selects Central Joinery time and time again.

Firstly, he says, Central Joinery provides competitive pricing and, as a local manufacturer, they have more control over delivery times.

“They have also been good at coming up with alternative ideas that make savings without cutting corners, and their competitive pricing is often better than imports from China and Italy,” says Bert.

Praising the company’s large, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Auckland, he adds that using a local manufacturer gives Kalmar much more control over the whole process, particularly when changes are required.

With numerous contractors working on Kalmar’s large projects, the ability to comply with schedules is crucial.  “The Central Joinery team always fits in with our programming and they perform well on site.”

Bill Baines - Equipment and Procurement, Progressive Enterprises Ltd

For more than a decade Central Joinery has supplied and installed joinery for Progressive Enterprises’ supermarkets.  Initially the work was for the North Island only but, since 2007, it has been nationwide and includes the supply and installation of cabinetry for the supermarkets’ offices, including kitchens and bathrooms, and for the complete front-end of the shop including checkout counters, information counters and Lotto counters.

“They are an excellent company,” says Bill Baines of Progressive Enterprises’ Equipment and Procurement division.  He adds that when it comes to cabinetry and understanding how it best fits with Progressive’s processes, ‘they know us better than we know ourselves’.

This knowledge and trust is, according to Bill, invaluable.

“They understand exactly what we require. They always check if something appears different in our plans, which can save costly mistakes being made – and we can be confident that onsite decisions they make for us will be correct.

“Their quality goods are delivered on time, at an acceptable price and always in a highly professional manner,” Bill says.

“Central Joinery provides an excellent service.”
